Bedding Glossary

Details are essential when helping your teen choose their bedding. Here you'll find care instructions, size measurements and a glossary of key terms that will help you select exactly what you need.

Care Instructions

Unless noted, all PBteen sheeting and quilted bedding is machine washable. For best results, wash bedding before first use. Follow instructions on the care label. Wash in cold or warm water (as specified) and tumble dry on low or medium heat (as specified). Remove promptly from the dryer. Use only non-chlorine bleach when needed.

Also known as a "duvet." A puffy bedcover sewn of cotton sheeting, generally filled with feather and down clusters or synthetic fibers and stitched through to discourage the fill from shifting. Often used with a duvet cover.

A covering used to enclose and protect a comforter, which is also known as a "duvet." Inside the duvet cover are ties at all four corners to keep the comforter in place.

A removable pillow covering that protects the pillow insert.

A bedcover with fabrics pieced and sewn together to create a decorative "topper." Batting is inserted between the topper and the backing, sewn together, then quilted with an often-decorative pattern of tiny stitches.

A type of removable pillow covering that's more decorative than a pillowcase. Often larger than a pillowcase, shams usually have a flange and/or a quilted front.
