If you scroll through Pinterest in August, you see endless photos of perfectly coordinated dorm rooms. It has become tradition in the South, particularly, to get together with your roommate before move-in to pick out matching bedding in order to create the perfect freshman year oasis. You guys know I did! But, what do you do if you and your roommate have different ideas on what you want your room to look like?

Mixing and matching your bedding is the perfect way to accommodate you and your roommates' unique personalities! I started by getting some ideas from Pottery Barn Dorm's room inspiration page. Then I decided to take a look to see what bedding paired nicely. Scroll down for some helpful tips on perfecting the
mixed-and-matched look.

First off, I recommend sticking with the same color scheme. Here, my froomie (which means "future roomie") and I decided on a blue color scheme. It's the perfect pop of color while still remaining somewhat
neutral and calming.

I chose the Mystic Medallion Comforter because I loved the paisley-boho-esque print! My froomie decided on the Simply Smocked textured bedding and some fun pillows (pairing pattern + texture is always a good idea!). Overall I love how the two duvets play off one another. It is the perfect balance of print, simplicity and texture.

Secondly, I highly recommend using as many layers as possible - different throw pillows, blankets, etc. Having layers gives the illusion that you have been acquiring all of these pieces over a period of time and makes your bed extra comfy.

Lastly, personalize! The whole point of a mix-and-match is to show off your unique personality! Add a monogram pillow or a pillow with your Greek letters on it. I absolutely loved the Fringe Border Monogram Pillow and wanted to make it a little more personalized so I added an M in a super simple, minimal font. I love how well the color matched with my bedding!

Planning your dorm room is such a fun way to bond with your future roommate. It definitely helps you get to know them before even meeting them in person. There is nothing better than having fun while styling your room and loving the outcome! Decorating our room was such a great bonding experience and I know we are going to have so many good times in our cozy, welcoming
dorm room oasis!
