How To Create A Statement Wall
In Your First Apartment
What's the best way to make a statement in your first apartment? A statement wall! I'm a huge fan of looking to Pinterest for inspiration, which helped me create my other statement wall in my bedroom. Luckily, Pottery Barn Teen gave me even more inspiration with their new collection from Pottery Barn Dorm to redesign my living room with a bold statement wall.

When I moved out into my first off campus college apartment for my senior year, I was excited to finally have the freedom to decorate the way that I wanted to. After creating a statement wall in my bedroom, I knew I wanted to create a similar space in my living room. From wall art to geometric mirrors, Pottery Barn Dorm had everything that I was looking for to create a statement. If you're looking to decorate your dorm room or college apartment, Pottery Barn Dorm is your new go-to (plus students get a 15% discount!) 1. Start with colorful wall art
The easiest way to start creating a statement wall is by hanging pieces of colorful wall art on the wall. I was immediately drawn to the bright colors and travel vibes from Bon Voyage collection. My favorites were Cuba, Rome, Amalfi Coast and the Monstera Leaf. It's best to start off by figuring out where you want to place the wall art (if you need more inspiration head to Pinterest!), then you can fill in any empty spaces with other things.
2. Add a touch of bohemian
In between the wall art, I wanted to add a touch of bohemian! I centered the art around a hanging macramé tapestry and put macramé plant holders on each side of the wall.
3. Get geometric with hexagon mirrors
Hexagon mirrors are a great addition to any statement wall to give dimension and to show off your creativity. I opted to sprinkle the mirrors throughout the wall, but you can also play around with creative different shapes.
4. Write letters on the wall
Using words or letters can help make a statement wall feel more personalized. I fell in love with these gold XOXO photo holders — they're magnetic so you can add in photos if you want!
5. Don't forget about the statement pillows!
Statement walls typically go over a bed or couch, so don't forget to add in statement pillows underneath! I chose to go with the Talk to the Palm pillow and That's Bananas pillow to match the theme of my wall.
