What's your story in a nutshell?

After studying as an architect and industrial designer in college, then completing graduate school in California, I moved to the Rockies to work as a creative director with a focus on resort marketing. Skiing, snowboarding, and the adventure of the outdoors created endless inspiration. When I moved back to the East Coast, I started my own business working as a graphic designer, and focusing on my art. I currently live and work in Virginia where I create art surrounded by the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

What are the stories behind "Sun and Surf" and "Surf and Sun"?

I created them side by side right after I returned from an inspiring beach vacation. I love the texture and color of paint pulled thickly across the page. I chose colors that make me feel as if the sun is shining on the sand and the ocean is crashing on the shore. I wanted to hand-paint the lettering to almost appear as if I were drawing words in the sand. My hope is that when you look at these pieces, you will feel that warm summer sun shining on you for a moment or the thrill of the surf crashing as you ride a wave.

Where and what inspires you when you are creating art?

I feel most inspired in the outdoors. When I'm creating, there is no better way to lift my spirits and help me look at things differently than a little time hiking in the mountains. I also love to travel. Seeing new places with fresh eyes is endlessly inspiring.

What is your advice for artists who are just getting started?

The more you play, experiment, and have fun while you create, the more joy it will give back to you. You never know what other people will respond to, but if you have passion for what you make and a love for what you do, the work will speak for itself.
